Delivering Broadcast Material to Nelonen Media via Thread 2.0 (mainly for domestic operators)
Media Tailor provides material and playout services for Nelonen Media. We are responsible for receiving and processing all program content, as well as managing its distribution across Nelonen Media’s channels. For any questions related to copyrights, broadcast schedules, or program content, please contact Nelonen Media directly.
Broadcast materials are delivered to Nelonen Media through Media Tailor’s own Thread 2.0 service.
Access Thread 2.0 at thread.mediatailor.fi with login details provided upon request from support@mediatailor.fi.
After logging in, you'll see the following view. First fill in the required contact details and provide the necessary program information, including segments, House ID, Split timecode and the optional Intro Start and Intro End. These are explained in detail below. Lastly, upload the file using Select file and upload button.

All files must comply with the specifications outlined in these delivery instructions. Nelonen Media supports both HD and UHD formats, in the latter case also multi-channel audio. If the content is delivered in UHD resolution, a separate HD version is not required. The primary format is progressive, and the secondary is interlaced. HDR deliveries are not currently supported.
Delivered files must be the final broadcast versions, with no further changes allowed after delivery. Each file must be named using only the project number (House ID) provided by your contact at Nelonen Media.
The file and program material must start at timecode (TC) 00:00:00:00. Each commercial break should be marked with 1 second of black. The file must continue for at least 10 frames after the end timecode, but no more than 1 second.
In the delivery form, fill in the segment TC’s as well as end credits (Split TC) at which the network may run split-screen advertising. The number of commercial breaks is determined by Nelonen Media.
IMPORTANT: If the program has no end credits, the Split TC must be 15 seconds before the end TC.
With the Intro skip feature, viewers can skip the intro/credits of an episode when watching on Nelonen’s Ruutu streaming service. If the program/episode has an applicable intro, enter the timecodes in the “Intro Start” and “Intro End” fields.
You can add more segments with the “+” button.
The time codes are illustrated in the image below. The example shows a program with two commercial breaks, resulting in three segments.

Technical test
The production company must deliver a separate test file at least one week before the broadcast date.
The test file must always be named test_12345678.mxf. The minimum length is 30 seconds, and the maximum length is 5 minutes. Actual broadcast materials may only be delivered after the test file has been approved. When delivering test material, enter 12345678 as the House ID and fill in the other info as usual. Do not use the actual House ID provided by Nelonen Media for test deliveries.
Delivery schedule
Broadcast material must be delivered to Media Tailor’s Material Services at least 3 business days before the broadcast date.
All exceptions must be negotiated with Nelonen Media and be notified to materialservices@mediatailor.fi. Late deliveries and replacements add manual steps to the automated handling of materials and may jeopardise the broadcast.
Late deliveries and replacements result in a 300 EUR + VAT handling fee per delivery.
If the nature of the production or content requires a late delivery, this must be agreed upon in the contract between the network and the production company, and communicated to Media Tailor at materialservices@mediatailor.fi.
Music cue sheets
Nelonen Media is required to report all music used in broadcast programs on a monthly basis. When delivering broadcast material, please also deliver the music cue sheet named with only the House ID. If the program contains no music, this must still be indicated in the report. Accepted file formats are Excel, Word, or PDF, and the file must be named using only the House ID, e.g., 12345678.xls. A separate music cue sheet is required for each episode.
Subtitles
If the program contains burned-in subtitles, please refer to the guidelines available here. If the program requires extensive translation and you're considering using a translation agency, please contact Nelonen Media.
